Frequently Asked Questions

What class do I start with?

If booking into a Reformer classes you must always start with Strength and Stretch class, even if you have done Pilates elsewhere or are quite fit. During these classes, the exercises including breathing technique and activation of core muscles will be broken down as they are taught focusing on technique. This class is also designed to familiarise clients with the terminology and mechanics of the reformer.

How long before I can attend a Body Reformers class after birth?

We ask that you wait until after you receive the all clear from your 6 week GP/Obstetrician check up to make sure that everything is healing well and there are no diastasis recti (abdominal separation) issues. It is strongly recommended that whenever you start back at Body Reformers after a break you begin with a strength and stretch reformer class.

Can I bring my baby to my group classes?

No you cannot. We do not recommend bringing your baby to the studio as we do not provide child care services. Please organise a babysitter to look after your baby off the premises.

I have never done Pilates before. Should I do a group class or a private session first?

That depends on the individual. Ninety nine percent of our new clients do just fine attending a Strength and Stretch class. With a maximum of 13 clients per class, the instructor can modify exercises to suit differing abilities. Although still quite intense, classes are broken down using simple exercises so all individuals get the most out of their workout. If you have chronic back pain, are coming back from an injury or are pregnant, a one-on-one session would be best to assess your situation. We do however reserve the right for Owners and/or instructors to restrict clients to a particular class type for safety reasons if necessary.

What do I need to know for my first class?

Please arrive 10 minutes early to your first class. This is so you’ll have time to familiarise yourself with the studio, meet your instructor and have a quick run down on the Reformer Bed you will use during class. If you’re late to your first class you might not be able to train. No mobile phones during classes (please be respectful to others).

What do I wear to class?

Appropriate clothing is essential as you are going to work up a sweat! We recommend gym tights, leggings or shorts and either a t-shirt or singlet top. We require Pilates grip socks for both safety and hygiene reasons. These can be purchased at the Studio or you can bring your own.

What if I’m already fit? What can Body Reformers classes do for me?

Well, you’d be surprised! Fitness freaks through to professional athletes are turning to Reformer Pilates, Matwork Pilates and Barre to complement their sport specific training. Body Reformer classes can make you more resistant to injury, correct weaknesses and enhance core strength and postural alignment.

How often should I attend Body Reformer classes?

Exercise is such a personal thing. How often you train will depend on your fitness level, how your body adapts to the training and how well your body can recover. It also depends on your fitness goals and what you do outside of Body Reformer classes. We recommend starting with two to three classes per week as a minimum. We believe a combination of Reformer, Barre and Matwork Pilates will give the best results.

I can’t make my class. Can you refund the session?

Unfortunately, no. We have a strict 12 hour cancellation policy for group classes and a 10 hour cancellation policy for private classes. If you can’t make your class, it is your responsibility to cancel or let us know at least 12 hours (for group classes) or 10 hours (for private classes) before the start time of your scheduled class or you will lose the session. We understand that life can sometimes get in the way, but we need to be strict and fair to all clients.

I’m running late. Can I still join a class?

All of our classes include a warm up and a cool down. If you are more than 5 minutes late to your class then you may not be able to join, and your instructor can turn you away from the class.
